Ambonia/Paduak comes from Asia and African Regions. (Ambonia is in the Paduak family, much like Boxelder being in the Maple Acer family). Sands and finishes to an excellent shine and depth, especially with CCL polishes.

Dimensions: 29 x 38 x 122mm. Asolutely beautiful wood.Quilted maple refers to a type of "figure" in maple wood. It is seen on the tangential plane (flat-sawn) and looks like a wavy "quilted" pattern, often similar to ripples on water. The quilted figure is only found in the Western Big Leaf species of maple. It is a distortion of the grain pattern itself. Prized for its beauty, it is used frequently in the manufacturing of knife handles and musical instruments, especially guitars. Quilted maple is an end grain figure that shows a circular pattern on flat sawn material. There are many terms that describe the shape and pattern of quilted maple. Aka watered, popcorn, tubular, sausage, bubble wrap, angle step.

These are off cuts from the planks we have sawn down, dimensions vary a bit 12 x 25 x 125mm. The wood is jet black and would make excellent spacers for all types of knife. Carbon dated to 3300 bc
Dimensions: 26 x 125 x 38mm.Dalbergia variabilis. Tulip is also called: jacaranda, bahia rosewood, pink wood, jacaranda Rosa, and bois de rose. This rosewood is a small tree (shrub) that averages 2-10" in diameter without sapwood. Most billets are 3-5" in diameter as this is a rare species and is only found in small 1" or 2" lumber or veneer and is not plentiful in either. There is a prominent heart defect that prevents many clean boards over 4-5" in width. In fact the average width is only 2-3/8". Weighing about 60 pounds per cubic foot, the wood is dense and takes a very nice polish. Used for fine articles including knife handles, turning, jewelry boxes, and pens. Size 123mm x 40mm x 25mm. Part seasoned.Camphor Wood. An evergreen of the Laurel family - very aromatic. The burls are very rare. The tree grows to heights of 100 feet with diameters of 2-4 feet. The heartwood is a light yellow-brown, reddish, or sometimes light chocolate with lighter indistinct sapwood. It has a slender and delicate texture and exquisite patterns. It does not distort easily, works very well and takes a good finish, which makes it an approproate wood for knifemaking.

It is found in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Jamaica, northern Guatemala, Belize, Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba(rare) and from the Yucatán to Veracruz in Mexico. The wood of this tree is a valuable source of lumber in Central America and the West Indies. Can cause skin irritation.The burr eyes will need some filling with Zap a Gap. Rather hard and heavy.The same tree as Sonokeling rosewood but having darker and heavier wood due to different growth conditions.Indian rosewood is historically one of the main rosewoods of commerce and was traded alongside Brazilian rosewood for hundreds of years. Felling is now strictly controlled by the Indian government and logs are sold by auction to a small number of government approved bidders only. Export is also stritctly controlled by the Indian government to reinforce the value and precious nature of this timber so that it will remain available for a long time into the future.Part Seasoned

It has become a popular ornamental tree, in parks across Australia and even in the southern US and other tropic zones. It has beautiful yellow-orange flowers in the spring.

I have managed to find quite a big block of Snakewood, I have cut into 25-28mm slices. The blocks have not yielded any of the traditional figuring.However the grain that is showing in my opinion is beautiful and compares with Desert Ironwood, rich and golden brown with darker streaks and has good weight.Please emaill me if you want bigger sizesStock size is 122 x 42 x 25-28mm.
